Fixing BTC Tools: Common Errors
Even the best tech can be temperamental. If the software isn’t detecting your farm, won’t change pools, or keeps throwing cryptic error codes, you’re in the right place. We’ve translated the solutions to the main issues from technical jargon into plain English.
How to Fix «Error 8»?
This is the most common issue you will run into. Error 8 indicates a connection timeout: the program is calling out to the ASIC, but the miner is staying silent. Here is how to fix it:
- Check the connection directly: Type the IP address of the problematic ASIC into your regular web browser. If its dashboard fails to load there as well, the issue lies with the cable, router, or a frozen miner. The software is not to blame here.
- Same network for everything: Your PC and your mining farm must be connected to the exact same router. If you are working from a laptop using a «Guest» Wi-Fi network, the router simply won’t grant you access to the equipment.
- Overzealous Antivirus: Sometimes Windows Defender or your antivirus decides that a network scanner looks suspicious and quietly blocks the program’s network access. Simply add the application to your exclusions/exceptions list.
The Scan Finished, But the List Is Empty
Did the progress bar reach 100%, but the table remained completely blank?
- Searching the wrong neighborhood: Double-check your range numbers. If your router assigns addresses like
192.168.1.X, but the program is set to scan192.168.0.X, the scanner will come back empty-handed. - Router «Stealth» Mode: Some router settings include a feature called «Client Isolation» (AP Isolation). If enabled, devices on the same network are blocked from seeing each other. Turn this feature off in your router settings.
Miner Is Visible, But the Numbers Are Zero (or Login Error)
The miner appears in the list, but the hashrate and temperature display zeros, or an authentication error is flashing:
- You forgot the password: By default, the program tries to access ASICs using the factory credentials (
root/root). If you set a custom password for your miner’s dashboard, you must enter it in the program’s settings menu. - Custom firmware restrictions: Some third-party or custom firmwares intentionally block external statistics sharing (API access). Because of this, the software can see the device but cannot fetch the data. Dig into your ASIC’s firmware settings and enable API access.
The Golden Rule of Batch Configuration (Pro Tip)
Changing pools on a hundred devices at once is incredibly convenient, but it carries risks. If you make a typo in the pool URL or worker name, your entire farm could drop offline.
Golden Rule: Always apply and test changes on a single test miner first. Wait a couple of minutes. If it successfully connects to the pool and starts mining, go ahead, select the remaining devices, and apply the settings to the entire group.
